For centuries, the relationship between man and sea is one of the unique characteristics of Japan. Japanese people went through tsunami from generation to generation. Sea wall, the solid barrier, is built against the dynamic nature of the coast.

The seamless barrier, we proposed, is  a sustainable way of living with tsunami. The natural barrier protects people and the city from natural disaster. The coasteal forest, which has been restored by local people, is the beginning of the new node of community activicties. The strolling path connects Sasayama, Shiomidai-minami, with the rest of Shichigahama cities and brings prople to the site. Thelocal trad and tourism activities, therefore, is revitalised. After 25 years, the seawall will be replaced with the coastal forrest barrier. The bond between Shobuta beach and thecity will be reconnected through the seamless barrier.
