The new extension of Alvar Alto Museum and the Museum of Central Finland inspired by Alvar Aalto’s pavilion design represents the authentic of form and material selection. The design of the envelope is transformed from terrain geometry. The extension symbolizes the modern architecture while maintains the design of two existing building; they are harmonized by the façade materials,
white-translucent travertine stone cladding which brings a natural light into interior space. The interior’s concept is a transition of two significant Alvar Aalto’s buildings. A gigantic sloped path is a main connection between the two buildings while the shopping area is a stepped floor. The difference of design and material used was applied to be wall decoration elements; the curve wood panel and the white concrete wall which increases the harmony of space.
